When you hire a Mothership doula you can expect the highest quality professional care. You can also expect that the doula you hire will be the doula who attends your birth. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet our other doulas but we feel strongly about the continuity of care that working with a single doula provides. Most Asheville Ob/Gyn practices share call among the doctors in their practice, and sometimes with other practices, so the doctor who attends your birth may not be your doctor and could possibly be someone you’ve never met before. Having your Mothership doula of choice supporting you through pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediately postpartum will allow you to establish a strong connection that will help you to feel safe and supported. We've built strong relationships with the WNC Birth Center, Asheville midwives, and Asheville Ob/gyn practices to foster a cohesive, supportive environment for your birth.
Our doulas are certified, experienced, and insured so that you know you’re getting the best for your birth. We are all mothers and can relate to a wide array of pregnancy, birth, and parenting experiences. Schedule your free consultation today to learn more about how we will support you and to talk about your birth options in Asheville. |
Asheville Mothership doulas offer:
Judgment-free support: We support any and every type of birth, and all definitions of family! Whether you are planning a "natural" unmedicated birth, an epidural, vbac, induction, or a cesarean, we support your choices and provide you with the support and information you need every step of the way.
Private Prenatal Meetings: We will meet with you and your birth partner to get to know one another, discuss your hopes, preferences and priorities, and to explore any fears and concerns. We can offer comfort and relaxation techniques , and also get a sense of what might work best for you and your partner. We can also help with your birth plan/preferences, if desired.
Positive Relationships With Your Care Provider: Whether you are choosing a midwife, family practice physician, or an obstetrician, we will work seamlessly with your chosen birth team.
Unlimited Phone, Email and Text Support: We are available at any time to answer your questions, provide resources and evidence based research about pregnancy, the birth process and comfort measures for use during labor.
Continuous Physical and Emotional Support throughout Labor and Birth: When labor begins, we will stay in communication with you and join you whenever you are ready for extra support, and we will then remain with you throughout your labor and birth. Drawing on our professional training, knowledge and experience, we will provide reassurance to you and your partner, suggestions to help labor progress, and support with relaxation, massage, positioning, and other techniques as needed. We will help facilitate communication with your health care provider to ensure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions every step of the way. After the birth, we will stay with you for 1-3 hours for continued care during placenta delivery and initiation of breastfeeding.
Early Breastfeeding Support: We will remain with you for up to two hours after the birth to help establish correct breastfeeding techniques.
Support for Partners: Doulas support families, and whether just your partner, or also your mother, grandmother and sisters, our role is to work together with your entire birth team, making sure you are all well supported. An important part of our role is recognizing when to step back - and asking others to step back - to allow the partner to take the central role in supporting the mother. We strive to facilitate harmony, give guidance, and model support measures, while also offering reassurance to partners during those times when they might feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable. One postpartum visit: Within a few days after the birth of your child, we will visit with you to see how you and your baby are doing and to discuss your birth experience. During this time we can assist you with breastfeeding, provide information, answer any questions you may have about newborn care, and identify additional resources for continuing supportive care, if needed.
Continuity of Care: If you find that you need more support after your baby arrives, our doulas are able to provide you with trusted postpartum care. We have a multitude of postpartum packages and services including newborn care classes, overnight baby care, and meal preparation.
